I am an artist with a passion for fashion and costume design. I am an experienced and accomplished person, but a more newly-minted “creative.” I have learned to write an erudite artist’s statement at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), but it boils down to this:
I like to make things. Especially out of fabric with thread. Apparently I am a “bricoleur,” which means I use odd stuff that I find and change it into something else. And I am very interested in how people signal things about themselves through the clothes they wear. I am also interested in sustainability, which I express in my life and in my blog.
I am inspired by music, by dance, by text, by film and by observing people. I have done costumes for a punk rock dance group for their performance at Slutwalk on the Mall in Washington, and I have worked on period costumes for opera. I like that range.
I enjoy creative collaborations, so do let me know if you have an idea for a project that involves fabric. And is perhaps a bit over the top. Or non-conventional. Or thoughtful. Or something else. My contact information is above on the left.
